How KindyStudio uses AI and children’s information

Last updated 2026-09-13

Draft awaiting review by [ENTITY NAME]. Written so a service can attach it to its digital technologies policy (National Regulation 168). In NSW the regulator is the NSW Early Learning Commission, and this statement is also written to support Child Safe Standard 8 (safe physical and online environments).

The short version

Everything we keep about children, in one place: What we keep about children. A printable summary for directors: For directors and approved providers.

What is sent, per maker

Every maker sends the topic sentence you write. In addition:

We also send fixed instructions of our own with every request: the writing and illustration rules that keep resources gentle, inclusive, Australian and age-appropriate (sun-safe hats, safe sleep, no nuts, native animals, respectful representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, no brands, no religious instruction).

What is never sent

Who does the generating

KindyStudio does not run AI models itself. The words (the plan, the story text, the program link, the studio assistant's answers) are written by a US AI provider. We send every request with storage turned off and, to the best of our knowledge under that provider's published terms for business use, requests are not used to train its models. If it is unavailable, the writing falls back to our media partners.

Pictures, narration, songs and video are made by our media partners overseas, specialist providers of image, voice and video generation, through a private connection. They process requests on servers outside Australia (including the United States) and return the result to us. [CONFIRM WITH MEDIA PARTNERS: request data is deleted after processing and is never used to train models.] The finished resource is stored in our private storage in Sydney and shown to you through short-lived links; on a share page those links expire after one hour.

Safety checks before and after generation

AI can still make mistakes: a word out of place, a picture that is not quite right, a fact about your service it could not know. The educator is the final check. Please read every page, listen to every narration and watch every video before a child does. KindyStudio resources are a starting point for your program, not a substitute for your professional judgement.

A one-paragraph statement you can paste into your service’s digital technologies policy: “Educators may use KindyStudio to prepare learning resources. Only a child’s first name (with family consent) and a topic sentence are entered; no images or other personal details are uploaded. Resources are reviewed by an educator before use with children. Data handling is described at kindystudio.com/ai and kindystudio.com/privacy.”
